Prohibited and Restricted Items when Sending to Kenya

You can’t just send anything you like with a courier. Not only do some couriers refuse to carry certain items – has a list of prohibited items that we won’t carry– but countries also have their own lists of items that they don’t allow through customs. Kenya has their own lists of goods that are prohibited or restricted, which include:

  • Counterfeit or fake money and currency
  • Any cosmetic product that contains mercury
  • Matches made with white phosphorous
  • Controlled narcotics
  • Pornographic and obscene materials
  • Used tires for commercial vehicles
  • A wide variety of hazardous materials and chemicals

There are also some goods that are not prohibited, but restricted, which means that they can only be imported under specific circumstances. You may also require permits to import restricted goods. These restricted goods include:

  • Unworked ivory of all descriptions
  • Worked or shaped ivory of all descriptions
  • Genetically modified goods
  • Historical artefacts
  • Firearm parts or ammunition
  • Bows, arrows, and fencing foils

Please note that this not a completely comprehensive list of goods that are prohibited or restricted. If you are not sure whether your goods fall into one of these categories or may not be allowed into Kenya, please check the full list of prohibited and restricted items.
