Customs in India
When your parcel reaches customs in India it may be subject to duties and taxes, which will be charged to the receiver. Although these cannot be paid in advance, if you talk to the Parcelcompare customer services team we are able to help you pay when the charges are calculated.
Shipping to India from the UK means that you will have to fill in a customs form when you place your order. With Parcelcompare, our system generates the relevant customs form to be filled in when you complete an order, so you know that you definitely have all the necessary paperwork.

Pick-ups take place on working days, between 9am and 7pm. If the courier has not arrived to collect your parcel by 4pm, we recommend you contact us.
If you're sending a pallet or an item requiring a tail lift or pallet truck to India, please contact our customer care team prior to collection.

With the exception of our timed delivery services, we deliver between 9am and 7pm on normal working days. If your first delivery attempt is unsuccessful, we make another two attempts before the parcel is returned to you.

Parcel tracking
Whenever you send a parcel to India it is scanned at each stage of its travels, starting from when it is handed over to the courier and ending when your recipient signs for the package. At any point during the journey you will be able to see where your parcel is and the progress that it has made through Parcelcompare's tracking system.
And in the unlikely event that there is a delay with your shipment, we'll get in touch with both you and your recipient to discuss the nature of the issue. That way, you're in the loop and know that we are resolving the issue.
Sending gifts to India
Parcelcompare makes it easy to ship gifts to India and, in India, it's not hard to find a reason to give a gift. Christmas, Diwali and Rakhi are just a few of the opportunities to send something special to loved ones. There is a gift allowance of up to INR10,000 per shipment; anything under that value will be exempt from import duties and taxes. Gifts sent to India with a higher value than INR10,000 will be subject to the same duties and taxes as normal shipments.
Sending luggage or excess baggage to India

Important points of note:
When you're shipping luggage, personal effects are defined as goods used by one person. This could include clothing, jewellery and personal electronics.
Goods that are used by more than person they are considered 'household effects' and are treated separately from personal effects during customs clearance.
If you'd like to send personal effects to India, you should keep in mind that there may be extra documentation that you will need to complete.
Large parcel and air freight to India
Sending large and heavy parcels to India is simple with Parcelcompare. We're specialists at delivering packages that other companies can't handle by road or air. If your shipment, including packaging and pallets, is shorter than 270cm, or lighter than 1,000kg, then we can deliver it. Just ensure that you book at least a day in advance – so we can organise a proper pick up – and try to be on hand when your goods are picked up so you can offer assistance to your courier in loading and unloading your goods.
Sending food to India
To send food to India, a No Objection Certificate from the Food Safety and Standards Authority of India is required. Once you have one however, Parcelcompare makes it simple to ship food to India. You won't be able to send homemade goods, or any other perishable foods, via courier. To send food to India, it should be store bought and in its original packaging.
Just remember to make sure that the food you want to ship is allowed into the country, and follow the simple rules below.
What you can send:
Non-perishable foods
Store bought foods with a best before date over 6 months away
Items must be in the original manufacturers packaging and unopened
The food label needs to list all the ingredients
The best before date must be displayed on the packaging
Examples of pershable foods: Crisp and savory foods, Chocolates and candy, Canned foods, Herbs and Spices in sealed containers, tea bags, Jams and other preserves
What you cannot send:
Perishable foods
Foods with a shelf life of less than 6 months
Homemade foods or any foods not in the original manufacturers packaging
Foods that can spoil in transit.
Food in packaging that have been opened
Food that does not contain a food label listing the ingredients
Packaging your parcel
Sending parcels to India means a lengthy journey, and, by the time it arrives, your package will have been handled multiple times. In order to ensure that the contents of your parcel arrive in one piece, it's important to properly package them before they are shipped.
In order to ensure that your goods arrive undamaged, there are three key things you need to be aware of when packing your parcel:
1. THE BOX
New boxes are stronger, don't risk a second hand one if you can help it. Old boxes can seem sturdy, but could be hiding flaws that could make your box burst or be crushed in transit. Sending more than 10kg? Get a double-lined box.
2. THE PACKAGING
Wrap everything individually before putting it in the box and surround it with packaging materials so that there's at least a 6cm cushion between your goods and the box wall. When you shake your packed box, nothing should move.
3. THE SEAL
Wrap your box three times around with parcel tape to create a Union Jack flag pattern. Make sure to support the corners and seams in particular. Peel off or obscure any old labels and attach your shipping labels securely so that all information is visible.

Holidays and gift giving occasions in India
Due to their philosophies on inclusiveness to all religions, India has an unusually large number of government holidays throughout the year when you may be looking to send gifts to India. These are celebrated by the whole country, while there is another smaller set of holidays celebrated regionally. During these times it’s worth leaving a couple of extra days to make sure that your parcel has more time to be delivered, as parcels are not collected or delivered on public holidays.
We have picked out some of the most popular dates below, but ensure you check that your dates do not overlap with these days and, if they do, factor in some spare time to make sure parcels arrive promptly in India.
