Sending parcels to Australia means a lengthy journey, and, by the time it arrives, your package will have been handled multiple times. In order to ensure that the contents of your parcel arrive in one piece, it's important to properly package them before they are shipped.
There are three key points to consider when packaging your goods, and by following them you can help ensure that your goods arrive undamaged:
Get a new box if you can, as used ones can often have weaknesses you can't see. We recommend double lined boxes for anything over 10kg. Also make sure the box is big enough for the contents, stuffing the box with too many items can put strain on the box.
Make sure all individual items are wrapped separately and suspended in a packing material, such as bubble wrap or parcel peanuts. Completely pack the box with packaging material so the items cannot move around.
Use strong packing tape and create a Union Jack flag pattern around your box, going three times around in each direction. Make sure there are no old labels stuck to the outside and that your new shipping labels are securely attached, with all information clearly visible.

There are a variety of items that are not allowed. You can see what will not carry on our prohibited items list, or what Australia doesn't allow into the country. Some are general – like perfume, which cannot be carried by courier – while there are several items that are specific to Australia – for example, you cannot send wood unless you prove that it is properly treated.
So long as you complete the B534 form and attach it to your shipment, and are an Australian resident or moving to Australia, then you should not have to pay customs charges when shipping luggage to Australia.
