Customs in Tanzania

When you're sending to Tanzania, every parcel that you send will have to pass through customs. That means that every package, without exception, will have duties and taxes applied to them before they are released to their intended recipient. In order to clear customs, you will also need a Licensed Clearing and Forwarding Agent , who can assist with the customs process. Without an agent, you will not be able to import any goods to Tanzania. There are not any exemptions for any reason, so be prepared to pay duties and taxes and goods of any value, even if the shipment is a gift.

Collection & Delivery

The beginning and end of the shipping process with ParcelCompare

Courier Collection

Once a booking has been made, will collect your parcel on the very same day from most locations across the UK and Tanzania.

If you're not available for a collection, you can make use of drop-off points. These are local businesses where you can drop your package off for collection at your own convenience. These operate outside of normal working hours, and are often cheaper.

If you're sending a pallet or an item requiring a tail lift or pallet truck, please contact our customer care team prior to collection.

Tanzania Delivery

If you have not chosen to use one of our timed delivery services, we will attempt to deliver your package between 9am and 7pm on normal working days. If we find that the recipient is not available on our first attempt, most of our carriers will try to deliver twice more.

For some deliveries our partner carrier – such as UPS – may leave a package in a safe place instead of requiring a signature. If you must have a proof of delivery, please use the upgrade option 'Signature required' on our 'select service page'

Parcel Tracking

has the safest hands in the business, we care about your parcel because you do. We offer free door-to-door tracking with every shipment, allowing you to follow its progress at every step of the journey. To get started simply enter your parcels tracking number into our tracking tool.

If the unlikely does happen and there's a problem or delay, we'll change your package status to 'exception' on your account and explain the delay.

We'll also send you an email explaining the problem and, if you've given us their email address, we'll send one to the recipient too. That way, no one is surprised if a parcel doesn't arrive when it is expected.

Not only do you still get great service, but these options are still significantly cheaper than shipping directly. Just remember to book a day in advance, and be on hand when your courier arrives to offer assistance in loading and unloading the shipment.

Packaging your Parcel

When you're sending a package halfway around the world, it takes a lot of handling. In fact, by the time it arrives it will have changed hands dozens of times. If you'd like to make sure that your goods arrive in great condition, it's vital to properly package them.

There are three key points to keep in mind while you're packing up your goods if you'd like them to arrive in great condition:

1. BOX STRENGTH

The most important part of packaging is the box itself – a good, new box can be the difference between items arriving broken or in one piece. Old boxes may look sturdy, but could be hiding a weakness that leads to a box bursting or being crushed by other boxes in transit. We suggest a new double ply cardboard box for each shipment, as an old box can become weak.

2. INTERNAL PACKAGING

Securely wrapping your goods in a wrapping material is very important. You should be very generous in doing so – the more you use, the better your goods are protected. Once you've done this, you should place your goods in the centre of the box and surround it with packaging material. Again, you should be generous – there should be at least a couple of inches of material on all sides, and no part of your goods should be touching the walls of the box.

3. LABELLING AND TAPING

If you're not using a new box, you should make sure to remove any labels that may already be attached. Any information not relevant to the shipment should be completely removed to ensure there aren't any problems in making delivery. When your goods are safely secured, use strong packaging tape – which helps support the box – and wrap around the box in both directions at least three times. Support the corners with further tape – these are the weakest points on a box.
