Clearing Vietnam customs

When you’re shipping to Vietnam, your parcel may have duties and taxes applied during customs clearance. However, goods that are worth less than 1,000,000 Vietnamese Dong are exempt from fees during customs clearance.

To take advantage of this exemption, be sure to fully declare the nature and value of your goods. This ensures that your goods have the correct duties and fees applied during customs clearance.

Sending gifts to Vietnam

Just like a normal package on its way to Vietnam, shipping a gift to Vietnam comes with exemptions from duties and taxes for goods below a certain value. If your gift is worth less than 1,000,000 Dong, then there’s no need to worry about paying duties and taxes during customs clearance.

Non-perishable foods

  • Items must be in the original manufacturers packaging and unopened

  • The food label needs to list all the ingredients

  • The best before date must be displayed on the packaging

  • Examples of pershable foods: Crisp and savory foods, Chocolates and candy, Canned foods, Herbs and Spices in sealed containers, tea bags, Jams and other preserves

What you cannot send:

Perishable foods

  • Foods with a shelf life of less than 6 months

  • Homemade foods or any foods not in the original manufacturers packaging

  • Foods that can spoil in transit.

  • Food in packaging that have been opened

  • Food that does not contain a food label listing the ingredients

Wrap your goods individually. Make sure to use plenty of wrapping to protect your goods. Then place them in your box and surround with packaging material, like Styrofoam peanuts, so no part of your goods touch the walls of your box.

3. SEAL YOUR BOX

Be generous when it comes to your packing tape – using plenty can help protect your box’s weak points. Wrap three times around your box in a Union Flag pattern, and then add your labels so that all information is clearly invisible.
